The Department of mechanical Engineering and industrial of the National Higher Polytechnic Institute (NAHPI) (School of Engineering) of the University of Bamenda was created by Presidential Order No 2017/581 of 24 Nov 2017

Vision of the Department

The Mechanical and industrail Engineering Department of the National Higher Polytechnic Institute (NAHPI) (School of Engineering) of the University of Bamenda, aims at training student of the mechanical and Industrial engineering Department to acquire the knowledge and become a top class training institution and research hop for the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Ecosystems.

Mission of the Department

The Mission of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department is to train professionals capable of exploiting the Mechanical Engineering opportunities and potentials of their environment for the benefit of mankind. The grandaunts will be able to apply the Know-how to Design, Manufacture and Maintain Mechanical and Industrial Systems, Coordinate and manage Projects in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering fields as well as research projects related to Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.

Admission Requirements

B.Eng. in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Access to year one To be admitted in the first-year, the candidates (holders of appropriate GCE/AL, Baccalaureat or equivalent) must successfully pass the competitive entrance examination launched annually by the Minister of Higher Education. Besides the general University requirements, applicants for these programs must have pass grades in Mathematics and Physics at the GCE Ordinary Level. At the GCE Advanced Level, applicants must have at least two pass grades, one of which must be Mathematics and for the competitive entrance examination, where three subjects will be considered for evaluation, an additional pass grade in one of the following will be advantageous: Chemistry, Physics, or any other Mathematics subject (Further Mathematics, Pure Mathematics with Statistics or Pure Mathematics with Mechanics. Baccalaureat C, D, E, BAC Technique F1, BT-MF/CM, BT-MA, BT-WMF Access to year two To be admitted in second year, the student must have completed 70% of the teaching units or 3/4 of the courses allocated to first year. Access to year three To be admitted in third year; - students must have completed all course units of year one and have completed at least 70% of the teaching units of year two or three quarters of the appropriations at second year. - Holders of DIPET I, HND and BTS (or equivalent) according to the specialty may be admitted into year three based on the competitive entrance examination launched annually by the Minister of Higher Education. Access to year four To be admitted in fourth year, students must have completed all course units of year three and have completed at least 70% of the teaching units of year three and finished with 9 mouths of industrial attachment.

Organization of Academic Programmes Evaluation

The University of Bamenda, The training programs are structured in semesters with each semester having courses, internships, a project or Thesis with a total of 30 credits. Courses are sub- divided into lectures, tutorials and/or practicals and each courses is allocated a certain number of credits. The evaluation consists of continuous assessments and a written examination The continuous assessment is scored on 30/100 and the examination is scored 70/100 pts making a total of 100 pts. the BMP grading system with a GPA over 4 is applied to determine the final grade of the certificate awarded.
